Oh brother (keep the pigeons warm)

Tardé muchos años en descubrir esta canción, incluida en su Live in Montreal, y cuando la oí por primera vez... oh, Dios mío, me puso literalmente el vello de punta y estuve unos días/semanas escuchándola una y otra vez. Me parece una de las mejores composiciones de Roger, que derrocha sensibilidad a raudales y pone a prueba su enorme voz (cuando empieza a subir los tonos siento como se me desgarra el alma).

Con respecto a esta maravillosa obra de arte, quisiera hacer unas preguntas:

- ¿La ha vuelto a interpretar Roger en alguna de sus actuaciones?

- ¿Cómo es posible que, si tiene por ahí guardada en un cajón más canciones de nivel similar, no haya grabado un disco con ellas en todos estos años? ¿Cómo puede dejar de compartir esas maravillas con el resto de la humanidad? ¿Tanto le ha costado todos estos años encerrarse un tiempecito en el estudio a grabar? De verdad que no lo entiendo.

- En cuanto a la letra, ¿a qué/quién se refiere Roger? ¿Es otra puyita a RD? ¿Es Rick el "singer in the band", el "brother, you're dead", el "leader of the world"? ¿Son los otros miembros de la banda los "pigeons" que hay que "keep warm"? Porque lo que sí me parece claro es que Roger es el que "is reaching a point of nothing else to see, nothing else to give"

No sé mucho sobre “Oh Brother”, pero a mí siempre me ha parecido que su letra podría estar dedicada a Rick.

Se trata de una canción que Roger escribió en los años 90 y llegó a grabar para el álbum “Open the Door”, aunque finalmente la descartó al igual que otras como “The Awakening”, “Teach me to Love Again”, “Hum Hum”, “Come Alive”, “My Friend the Sun” y “Low Dance”.

En la época de “Live in Montreal” la tocaba en muchos conciertos, pero poco a poco fue desapareciendo del ‘set list’ y ya hace tiempo que no ha vuelto a tocarla. Requiere mucha fuerza vocal y quizás sea demasiado ‘castigo’ para su voz a mitad de una actuación.

Si alguna vez Roger volviera a meterse en un estudio para grabar un disco, sería una firme candidata a formar parte del mismo junto a “The Journey”, “Evolution”, “Walk About”, “Everyone Dies”, “Bitter Wine”, “Teach me to Love Again”, “The Awakening” y “Hum Hum”.
