I got to know Rick Davies In 2010, 2011, and 2012 when I sang and played keyboards and percussion on tour with Supertramp—Rick was a founding member. Many of you will recognize his voice on songs like “Bloody Well Right” and “Goodbye Stranger.” He was an absolute beast of a keyboard player—a lover of jazz, blues, and rock ’n’ roll, and a great songwriter and singer.

After seeing me open for Loggins & Messina at the Greek Theatre in LA in 2009, Jesse Siebenberg—son of Supertramp drummer, Bob Siebenberg—called me to ask if I would tour with Supertramp and sing lead vocals on some of the higher vocal range songs originally sung by Roger Hodgson, who would not be taking part in the tour.

A few months later, I flew to meet Rick at his house on Long Island, and, after a brief, informal audition, we were soon off to Europe. I ended up singing lead on “Dreamer,” “Take The Long Way Home,” and “It’s Raining Again.” It was my first time touring overseas, and I will always look back fondly on performing in arenas throughout Europe and having lots of good times with that jovial bunch of true rockstars. Rick was kind, creative, and a bit shy. He had a dry, fun, mischievous sense of humor and loved to tell jokes, and I always enjoyed his company.

In late 2015, we were preparing to tour Europe again on a sold out tour when we got the sad news that Rick had developed a form of blood cancer and would need to undergo chemotherapy for the next several months. The tour was postponed indefinitely and never materialized. I would have loved to have done another tour with Rick and Supertramp, but I’m glad that he prioritized his health because he lived for another 10 years after his diagnosis. Rick was truly one-of-a-kind—a working-class Englishman turned prog-rock/pop star. Thanks for all the music and the good times, Rick. It was a privilege and an honor to know you. Rest in peace.

Pues no lo lamentes, porque no hay motivo, y además tú añades la traducción en español, que a mí me dió pereza. 

Uy, no sé yo si estoy haciendo correctamente lo de citar tu mensaje, o más bien responder. Tanto tiempo sin publicar en TLW, que perdí la costumbre y me cuesta más, en especial desde el móvil. Apenas abro el ordenador desde hace tiempo. Está muy obsoleto además, y de momento no me apetece comprar otro. Molaría una versión de TLW en formato app para el móvil. Admirados Juan y Abel, eso sería posible en algún momento? Please!

No sé si interesan reacciones de gente un poco ajena al mundo Rick, pero el economista Daniel Lacalle hace un bonito panegírico de Rick, de nuestra banda y analiza el desencuentro Rick-Roger, que sitúa básicamente en clave económica, con lo que estoy de acuerdo. 
Los comentarios de la gente están muy bien, también. 
Lacalle no sólo habla de economía muy bien, sino que también lo hace de música con muchísimo conocimiento. De hecho, en sus vídeos económicos se puede ver que cuenta con una enorme biblioteca y una enorme discoteca personal.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the recent deaths of two people who had a significant impact on the first years of my career in the Music Business; Dave Margereson signed me to the prestigious A and M Record Label, and his management, friendship and wisdom helped me greatly to find success in this extremely difficult Industry. We also say goodbye to Rick Davies, the keyboard player and songwriter of the Band Supertramp, who was not only a friend (and who also played piano on "Goodnight" on my first Album,) but was part of that wonderful Group with whom I performed more than one hundred concerts all over the world as a support act, starting as a solo singer, then putting together a Band, often playing shows in football stadiums to huge crowds before I set off on my own journey to where I am today. I learned a great deal about the business from these two wonderful people, and am so grateful to have had the opportunities they offered me all those years ago.

Feeling unspeakably sad about Rick’s passing. Though it’s been years since he was closely integrated in my daily routine, he will forever be a part of the fabric of my life. Regardless of the challenges that the band members had over the years, I have personally held each of them dear to my heart, and I cherish my memories of laying under the soundboard, listening to the magic that happened when he and dad played together. I remember looking up at his bearded face at the dinner table as a small child and trying to work out the meaning behind his expressions. He was always kind to me, and I am grateful for it.
Sending my love out to all the Supertramp community who are grieving this massive loss with me, and especially to his wife Sue, who he loved so dearly. Fly high Rick. We will see you on the other side.
