Rick Davies RIP

Hi John,
Thank you for the fitting tribute to my dear friend and mentor Rick Davies.
I'm the guitar player that joined the band in 1985 to replace Roger when he left to pursue a solo career.
Rick's quiet demeanor, dry sense of humor and deep musical vision quickly became a huge influence on me and my own music.
I consider myself so fortunate to have shared hundreds of stages together and his infectious joy of performing.
I will forever cherish the many tours and countless hours in the studio with Rick Davies, my old friend.
His music will live forever...

What a shock it was to find out the news on Saturday morning.

I can’t imagine a world without Rick Davies.

Great knowing you Rick Davies.
It's been heartwarming to read the many great tributes to Rick Davies of Supertramp over the last few days. And ofcourse it helps to make one reflect back so many years (52) on time spent with his warm personality. After the band had spent months refining the songs for "Crime of the Century." Rick, Bill Bones and I shared a large one bedroomed apartment at 65 Elsham Road, South Kensington. Rick was stone broke while putting together one of the greatest albums of the decade. Rick had been financially strained for many years. And it seems petty but when such a great artist asks you for a few bob to purchase a pack of cigarettes on a very regular basis. And if i asked him to come and listen to a band down at the local pub it was normal that i would pay for his drinks etc. It helps you to realise the sacrifice he and the rest of the band made while they tried to get recognition. I have enormous admiration for those who struggle and persevere in any endeavor. And Rick and Rog tried longer than most while trying to get the band into that perfect mould for their dream. He toughed it out until he was 29 when “Dreamer “ came out. Before Elsham Road He lived in the ironing closet at the more colorful Holland Villas road house that was packed many occupants! to get the rent down. I only mention this as so many think great musicians have an easy path to success. And don't realize how many years they hone their craft with great sacrifices. Rick stayed a lot at my home in East Hendred , Berkshire when he would jam and jam with Rog. Both of them were so committed and would practice and experiment with songs for hours and hours late into the night. Relishing the lack of distractions London would impose. Rick had a kind of explosive laugh that would sometimes erupt while i didnt get the joke. It was unique to his way of looking at the world. I went overland to Australia after Elsham Road and our paths didnt cross much in the intervening years. But I obviously reflect back on my time with Rick in those days with much happiness.

Muy cálida la despedida de Nick Hodgson. Me gusta.

Yo todavía no he sido capaz de ponerme a escuchar un solo tema de Rick. Cuando me sienta preparado me pondré Rudy y sus sucesivas versiones en directo. Si todo va bien, luego iré a por el resto de su discografía.
