Rick Davies RIP

Incluyo un pequeño detalle que acabo de encontrar visitando la página web de Supertramp, y es que creo que han actualizado la nota sobre el fallecimiento de Rick animando a realizar donaciones en su memoria al Multiple Myeloma Fund.

Hermosas palabras de Brad Beyer, que tocaba teclados y armónica en los conciertos de Ricky & The Rockets y además nos ha dejado esta foto que se hizo junto a Rick el pasado 26 de abril.

Cheers indeed... words usually come very quick fo me; Whether written or spoken. But these words are coming with some difficulty and much sadness. I want to thank everybody through text, phone calls, and on social media for all the kind words I've received about my friend Rick- who's passing last week of cancer,  has left us all with a hole in our hearts that can't be filled. Me and these wonderful musicians in the photos have been witnessing this for the last ten years. (also Dave Giaccone) Known as "Ricky and the Rockets", we kept Rick, going musically and were able to pull off 7 amazing shows at the Talkhouse in Amagansett. Many of you out there were kind enough to come, and I'm sure you agree the shows were top quality. Rick would have it no other way. He was a gentleman, a serious musician, a great storyteller, a teacher, jazz nut, classical fan, historian, and most of, a genuine friend to us all. All the time we spent preparing for the shows was so enjoyable with laughter, stories, great music and get-togethers upstairs that we will never forget. In the months in between, if Rick was feeling up to it,  Mike,  Bosco and I would get together and go through a series of jazz and standards. Rhythm & blues and some good old rock and roll just for fun, keep in shape. All these musicians taught me so much, and the time with them was invaluable. I owe them a great debt.. i also want to say, Rick was so supportive of my artwork, being that he was an art student in England... I smile when I think of him tell me  the importance of the correct signature. When I had my first show this past April, he wanted to come play some "background" music, as he called it for my friends. I told them I would tell them all to be quiet. He said, "no, this is your night. Go and visit - enjoy yourself.-I'm here as your friend, not as Rick Davies: The big pop star from Supertramp".. with a chuckle -Because he never bragged about any of that, he was so humble. He cared about the music so much. The fact of being a pop star was not his goal. And yet, he became a musical legend.  Never to play "From Now On" again saddens me so. Love you,Rick, and Sue his wife too. She made it all work. RIP.

 

Este es el tributo de George Bowser, antiguo compañero de Roger en la banda People Like Us y miembro del dúo Bowser & Blue, con el que Rick colaboró en su primer álbum.

Rick Davies, who founded Supertramp in 1969, has died. He was a lovely, genuine man. I went with Roger and Mark to meet him and the band’s Dutch backer / manager shortly after Roger joined the group, and in December of that year, on my way home from Oxford, I visited the newly-formed band in their rented house where they were rehearsing for their first LP. Roger played bass at the time. I remember they sang “Nothing to Show” which I liked a lot. Rick, who was playing the Hammond Organ, was very warm and welcoming and very funny, too. He loved jokes - the sillier the better. Many years later, despite his success, he was happy to contribute his brilliant piano playing to Bowser and Blue’s first LP. He was a skilled drummer, which I think you can hear in his unique, percussive style of piano playing. He and the band jammed with us at bar Déjà Vu while they were in the middle of a North American tour. All I could offer him to play on was my little portable Casio keyboard, which he played with great enthusiasm and wit. My deepest sympathy to Sue, and my condolences to Roger, John, Dougie, Bob, and Rick’s friends and his many, many fans.

I am lamenting the passing of Rick Davies, one of the founders of the band Supertramp, with whom I had wonderful touring experiences in 1985 and 1988. They were an absolute pleasure to be with, onstage and off. My deepest sympathies to his wife Sue, and the other members of the band I know so well. RIP

Muchas gracias a Josías Rodríguez, presentador del programa musical "Se buscan clásicos" en la emisora argentina Radio Horizonte, por invitarme a repasar la historia de Supertramp tras el reciente fallecimiento de Rick.

Gracias Abel por poner esta información. Como se va viendo en los escritos de condolencias, Rick colaboró en varios trabajos de diferentes artistas con su piano, desconozco si colaboró con alguno tocando la batería. En todo caso, y quizás en otro asunto, creo que sería interesante crear una lista de canciones en las que ha participado Rick. Estos días se ha confirmado que participó con Chris de Burgh y Bowser & Blue. Me imagino crear un lista en Spotify con estas piezas. Pensar que Rick participó en ellas me genera entre nostalgia y admiración.
